Moral Machine (Self-Driving Ethics)
A site that presents one unavoidable crash after another, where a self-driving car with failed brakes must choose whom to hit, and asks you as an outside observer which outcome is acceptable. When you finish the set of scenarios, your pattern of judgements is summarized and compared with other respondents. You come away seeing what criteria are at stake when such decisions are handed to a machine, and how much those criteria differ from person to person.
How to try it
Press Start and you proceed by clicking whichever of the two scenes you find acceptable; one session is at most twenty dilemmas and takes under ten minutes. The Design menu lets you build your own scenario by choosing the characters and whether pedestrians cross legally, and Browse lets you view and discuss scenarios made by others. The interface is available in Korean; because the scenes depict death and injury it is not suited to younger children, and responses are collected anonymously as research data.
